I’m back in Rhode Island today after a very productive couple of days in NYC. As you might expect, top of my agenda for the NY trip was the broadband stimulus.
During my visit, I spent some time with NYC Council Member, Gail Brewer, who, as I noted in a prior post, has long been an advocate for increasing broadband proliferation in the city. We had a great conversation about the broadband challenges facing various regions of the city and how different companies – including Towerstream – can work together to solve them.
Council Member Brewer and her team also hosted an event on Tuesday night to discuss the Broadband Technology Opportunities Program (BTOP). More than 120 people attended – double what the organizers had expected – and were able to learn more about how smaller organizations in the NYC area can potentially get involved with the program.
Many attendees also discussed the broadband challenges they face, particularly in areas like Brooklyn, the Bronx and the Lower East Side. My team and I made some great connections at the meeting and are looking to speak with some of these organizations and groups about how these challenges can be overcome.
If you’re a business based in NYC – or any other urban area, for that matter – that has issues with broadband, I encourage you to comment on this post with more information. We all have the same goal here and often, the best way to get things done is to work together! I’d love to hear from you.

,..] blog.towerstream.com is one nice source of tips on this subject,..]
The government would be ignoring a great opportunity by not providing stimulus to such a wonderfully structured company. I hope job creation and inner city success, where MOST people work, becomes a higher priority than what appears to be wasted money nearing its flow into “underserved/ rural” areas. Towerstream is a legitimate company and a dollar in your hands is worth a lot more than a dollar in any rural entity.
Best of luck.
