What can I say, it’s been a very busy few months here at Towerstream, which is why I haven’t had the chance to update my blog. For my first post back after a short hiatus, I thought it would be a good opportunity to take a minute and address the questions Wi-NOW and Wi-ME?

First, the Wi-NOW. No matter where you stand on WiMAX, I’m sure everyone can agree that 2008 has been an explosive year for the technology. Sprint and Clearwire have entered into a joint venture (with financial backing from Intel, Google, Comcast, Cablevision and others), the WiMAX Forum announced the first certifications of mobile WiMAX equipment and just last week, a certified WiMAX network was launched in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, courtesy of DigitalBridge and Alvarion, among many other market movements.

Given this, I think now is the perfect time to be blogging about WiMAX news, issues, technology, etc.

But, Wi-ME? Here’s a bit of background to answer that. I co-founded Towerstream in 2000 with my partner, Philip Urso, and took a gamble on high-speed wireless technology when certain other companies (I won’t name names) were falling apart. Since then, my team and I have expanded our company from one network in Newport, Rhode Island to providing our service to businesses in 10 major markets across the country. Over the years, I’ve had hands-on experience and gained a lot of knowledge about WiMAX technology, equipment, spectrum, network roll-outs and what the technology can offer to end users. Well, now that WiMAX has hit the “big time,” I feel it’s important to share what I’ve learned and my experiences to help spread the word about this technology – and de-bunk some of the myths and mysteries.

With my blog, you can expect my thoughts on all things wireless, especially WiMAX, based experiences with Towerstream. I’ll also expand beyond WiMAX into other wireless topics from time to time, whether it’s a cool new toy that I’m excited about or another 4G technology that’s making headlines.
